You've seen it on TV, you've heard about it from friends and coworkers, you've
spied it in bookstore windows. In "Eat, Cheat, and Melt the Fat Away" Somers
reveals new food combining research and tips that she's discovered in her
healthy eating quest, as well as more of her delicious recipes. My only caution
is to use unrefined sugar in place of the white sugar her recipes call for.

The Silver Palate Cookbook
-
by Julee Rosso, Michael McLaughlin (Contributor), Sheila Lukins / Hardcover
(May 1982)
-
The Silver Palate Cookbook with its 350 recipes is the widely-acclaimed
contemporary classic that brought a new passion for food and hospitality
into American homes. The tenth anniversary edition of this classic cookbook
presents recipes, menus, and tips from Manhattan's celebrated gourmet food
shop.
-
UnDiet review: See the UnDiet Recipe Index
for links to some Silver Palate recipes (modified to be compatible with the
UnDiet). It's worthwhile to note that the recipes included on the recipe
page were randomly selected by the publisher and yet the only modification
required was to specify unrefined sugar for refined sugar. The Silver Palate's
recipes do tend to be very compatible with the UnDiet guidelines and are
a staple in the UnDiet kitchen.

Frozen Assets : How to Cook for a Day and Eat for
a Month
-
by Deborah Taylor-Hough (Introduction)
-
Our Price: $14.95 / Paperback / December 1998
-
Jam-packed with meal-planning advice. It contains recipe ideas, plus detailed
instructions on how to get the maximum value from your food dollar, while
also slashing meal preparation times.
-
Deborah Taylor-Hough is as organized as a soldier. She shops for one month
of dinners in less than an hour, chops and prepares ingredients the next
night after dinner, and then spends one long day cooking. Making double and
triple batches of 10 recipes, she ends up putting 30 meals for two adults
and two children into the freezer, ready to heat and eat. Taylor-Hough's
plan uses simple, familiar recipes. As much a manual for a way of life as
a cookbook, Frozen Assets tells how to create your own meal plans, cope with
a small, "in refrigerator" freezer, and how to use this bulk-cooking method
even if you are single. If you are into efficiency and want a guide to
reorganizing your culinary life, this book is a must-have. It even offers
advice on how to recover from a whole day of cooking.

While this book doesn't recognize food combining, it's an invaluable tool
for creating alternatives to bottled salad dressings, instant puddings, spice
mixes, etc. You'll often have to substitute nondairy milk for dairy milk in
a pudding, soy flour for wheat flour in a gravy, nondairy cheese for dairy
cheese, but once you have a cookbook with a recipe for almost every
dish known to man you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Despite the wonderful features of this program I'm giving this program a
thumbs down. I received it free and I still removed it from my computer.
It's incredibly slow. Just typing in text was difficult as it took
a few seconds for each character to appear on screen. If you have lots of
memory and still want to give it a try, you may luck out, as the problem
may be only that this program is a memory hog.

| If you haven't found the recipe you're looking for use this search engine
to find the recipe you're looking for on the Internet.
TIP: type the word "recipe" after your search criteria, i.e. "chicken recipe"
instead of just "chicken".
I love this search engine so much that I've almost abandoned
my cookbooks. It's so much easier to just type in what I want
and be given a page full of links to new recipes than
to have to search through several cookbooks. |
