Hain Healthy Naturals Vegetable Broth Is one of the few vegetable broths you can buy at a grocery store that doesn't have some form of refined sugar. Technically the carrot and potato in this broth makes it a Starch, but there's little enough of it and also because it's a broth we classify it as Neutral. On a taste scale of 1 thru 10 I would classify this broth as a 6, not bad, but I've had better. If you don't stir it really well it's pretty thick when you get to the bottom, which was fine with me cuz I used this thicker broth to make a creamy risotto.

You can cut back on eat meat without missing it and save a bundle on your grocery bill. If you eat meat every night designate one night a week as a meat-free dinner. If your family won't go for this then make it a meat-less dinner. Use just a little meat in a stew, soup, casserole, or other dish. If you don't serve meat every night then make one more night a meat-free or meat-less dinner.

Meat-Less meals contain more vegetables and less meat. When you incorporate Meat-Less meals into your dinner plans you'll save money, cut back on your family's meat consumption, get extra veggies into your family's diet, possibly even appease a vegetarian who won't eat a chicken breast but is okay with a little shredded chicken in a Chile Relleno. If however you have a committed vegetarian it's easy to leave the meat out of one portion of a Meat-Less meal rather than make another dish. Below are some Meat-Less meal links:

 Cut back on carrots, potatoes and corn (including popcorn) until you begin to lose again or until you reach your goal weight.

 If you do eat sugar try to eat it 30 minutes before or after a meal. Sugar, yes even good sugar, inhibits digestion and we all know what that means - EXTRA POUNDS!

 If you're having trouble with indigestion try not eating acid Fruits (oranges, tomatoes, lemons, pineapples ...) with Proteins. Acid fruits can hamper Protein digestion and result in putrefaction.

 If you're having trouble with indigestion try not eating Starches and sugars in the same meal. This combination will produce fermentation in most people.

 If you're having trouble with gas and/or upset stomach when eating Fruit try eating melons by themselves, not combining them with other Fruits and foods. This guideline is based on the ease and speed in which melons decompose in the digestive system.

 Milk is best taken alone or not at all. Milk is the natural food of young mammals; each species producing milk adapted to the needs of its young. The young of each species, including our own, take the milk alone, not in combination with other foods. Milk doesn't digest in the stomach, but in the duodenum, the result being that when milk is taken the stomach does not secrete digestive enzymes.

Glossary

Banana chips: horror of horrors I've discovered the most dastardly trick. Banana chips are not dried, they are fried in oil! Needless to say I'm taking them off the recommended foods list. 2 banana chips = 140 calories! I know that we don't count calories here at the UnDiet, but that's just too outrageous for 2 banana chips!

Spend Your Quarters Well

No matter how well you plan your day, how often you remember to pack take-along snacks, how well stocked your top desk drawer is, there are bound to be times when you're hungry and there's nothing available for sustenance but a vending machine. I recently discovered the wonders of the vending machine while stuck at a hospital longer than I had planned. I was starving and the vending machine was the only option unless I wanted to raid the doctor's lounge fridge. One glance in there and I ran for the vending machine! Luckily this one had microwave popcorn. That was an easy choice. But it set me to thinking about what choices would have been available if there hadn't been popcorn. Here's a list of UnDiet choices most vending machines carry:

  • popcorn
  • raisins or any other dried Fruit
  • tortilla chips: plain, no sour cream, ranch, or nacho cheese all of which have lots of additives including sugars
  • potato chips, plain, no sour cream (see above)
  • many vending machines now carry fresh Fruit

Start by drinking a big glass of water if filtered water is available. Otherwise the next best thing would be decaf coffee or diet soda. I carry an empty plastic bottle with a water filtering cap. I found mine at a health food store . For only $10 it gives me 2500 gallons of filtered water. Ten to twenty minutes after your drink you can dig into your vending machine treasure.

UnDieter: Is baking tomatoes for any amount of time allowable?

UnDiet: It's fine, it's just that tomatoes are very acidic when cooked. During weight loss, make sure to have lots of fresh Fruit or veggies with your meal to counteract the high acid content so you can digest your food quickly and efficiently.

UnDieter: Which is best to start out with? The Protein Blast Plan, the Fat Blast Plan, or Day 1 of the Eating Plan. I'd like to get started right away, but I'm not quite sure which one to go with. Is it a matter of preference, what foods you like, how fast you want to lose weight, or is it something else that makes these three plans different? Thank you for your time.

UnDiet: I've posted a variety of plans because The UnDiet is about making choices that will work for you, your preferences and your lifestyle. That can mean finding one plan that's right for you, or going back and forth between several different plans. You will lose weight the quickest on Produce Power, but it's difficult to stick with, so often an UnDieter will do Produce Power for 2-5 days, then go back to the Basic Plan, or Protein Blast.

The Fat Blast is only for those who are metabolically resistant to losing weight. These are people who are generally very overweight, and who have yo-yo dieted for long periods of time. Even then, it should only be followed for 3-5 days.

Bottom line - choose the plan that seems easiest for you to follow right now. In the beginning, any of the plans will kick start your weight loss. Later you may find that you want to switch to another plan, and that's okay.
